Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32KO) became the first American world heavyweight champion in nearly eight years on Saturday night, handily defeating now former champion Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21KO’s) by unanimous decision.

In the video above, Ringside Report TV takes a look at fight-highlights, as well as goes into depth on the fight that was (also Leo Santa Cruz’ knockout victory).

In a fast-paced and action packed heavyweight tilt, Wilder, 29, used a piston-like jab to keep a very determined Stiverne, 36, at bay.

Though he had his moments, the Haitian-Canadian Stiverne, was never truly in the fight.

In a fight that nobody expected to go to the scorecards, the judges scores read 118-109, 119-108 and 120-107 (Ringside Report scored the bout 117-111).

With the victory, Wilder looks to get back in the ring quickly against unbeaten Brit Tyson Fury.

Following that, he has his sights set on unifying the division with undisputed heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Stiverne, who claimed to not be fully mentally in the fight, was hospitalized for dehydration following the bout.

Keep checking back with Ringside Report.
